The Answer Series & Pick n Pay donate to Velokhaya –

In a recent partnership The Answer Series joined forces with Pick n Pay to donate books to the Velokhaya After School Tutoring Programme. This after school tutoring programme is run daily in Velokhaya to support learners with their homework and revision.

Study guides were donated to Grade 12 learners in Velokhaya as they are busy preparing for their preliminary exams as well as their final exams during the current pandemic. The handover took place on Saturday, the 18th of July 2020: Mandela Day.

The Velokhaya programme revolves around four themes: cycling, academics, a feeding scheme and mentorship. The programme is well known for its cycling but they would like to give their academics a higher profile; this is where TAS was able to assist.

In the handover speech Monwabisi Mfobo, the representative of TAS, addressed Velokhaya and said that The Answer Series is very proud to be associated with such a wonderful movement that has registered so many achievements in the past few years.

He added that TAS remains committed in their role as academic partner by giving the learners access to TAS study guides. At TAS it is believed that every success story out of our townships is characterised by an individual or an organisation that recognises that every child needs an opportunity and affirmation.

Mfobo continued by saying that somebody did that for him once and that was the reason why he could stand in front of the Velokhaya audience at this point in time. It was because there was someone who believed in him!

Mfobo thanked Sipho Mona and the people at Pick n Pay for shining the light on this corner of Khayelitsha
and for unearthing amazing talent amongst the youth.

His overall message that he conveyed from TAS was:
USE THE BOOKS!
